Keeping feet warm

Hunter clam that their Short Snow boots will keep your feet warm in temperatures as cold as -22°C. Fortunately, many us of we will never have the opportunity to test Hunter’s claim.

In order to achieve warmth at such low temperatures Hunter have fully lined the boots with a fleece lining. One of the common problems with fleece as an insulation, is that it compacts overtime and loses its insulating properties. However, the Hunter fleece lining is high quality and springs back to shape.

The boots have a very thick sole, which helps prevent the cold coming up from the ground and making feet cold. Although the soles are thick, which would make you think the boots are heavy, they are in fact surprising lightweight.

At the top of the boots there’s a fastener that can be tightened to help keep heat in the boots and keep snow out.

The Hunter Short Snow Boots will keep your feet warm in freezing conditions, that is for sure. Will they keep your feet warm at -22°C, in all honesty we don’t know.

Comfort

The biggest single complaint about the Hunter Short Snow Boots is around comfort. Hunter customers have reported that the boots rub on the back of the heel. Causing blisters and making them uncomfortable to wear. We think that this issue is mainly down to the poor sizing of the boots.

The boots seem to come up large and wearing boots that are too large will cause them to rub against your feet. It’s a shame that the boots aren’t available in half sizes as this would probably help resolve the comfort issue.

Snow boots often come with some kind of adjustment, to get the boots to fit securely. Common methods of adjusting snow boots are laces, Velcro straps or adjustable buckles. Unfortunately, the Hunter snow boots have no such adjustments, so there’s no easy way to adjust the fit. Making it even more important that you get the correct size.

Traction

The soles of the boots are of sturdy construction and have deep treads, giving the boots a good amount of traction in the snow and also wet conditions. Like many other snow boots, these Hunter snow boots do not give you much grip on hard icy surfaces.

Style

The boots are made from several different materials, that not only serve a practical purpose, but also give the boots character.

Available in a range of colours, including pink, black, red and also combination colours orange\grey, green\black, grey\black. Hunter are known for randomly releasing special additions of their boots, so if you’re looking for something a bit different to the standard colours and designs it is worth shopping around to try and find a special edition of the boots.

This review is for the Short Snow Boots, but Hunter also have the Tall Snow boots and ankle snow boots. Apart from the height of the shaft, the boots are exactly the same.

Overall we think that the Hunter Snow Boots are about as stylish as snow boots get.

Value for Money

Its always difficult to determine if something is value for money, as people have different opinions and different expectations. We can tell you that the Hunter Snow boots are well made, look good and are well suited to snowy conditions.

If you have the budget and like the look of them, then we recommend you buy them.

Review of Hunter Short Snow Boots: Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a pair of new snow boots, then you can’t go too far wrong with the Hunter Short Snow boots.

The only complaint is around the sizing of the boots, which most customers are reporting as coming up large. So, if you can try before your buy. If you’re ordering online, then be prepared to exchange for a different size.

We found the boots to be well constructed, with no obvious weak areas. The boots look stylish and are also practical.

We recommend the Hunter Short Snow boots and have given them a rating of 4 out of 5
