When buying a new pair of rain boots \ welly boots, it’s important to get as much information about them as possible beforehand. One of the worst things is ordering some new rubber boots, only to be disappointed when they arrive because they don’t look like you thought or split within days. This review of the Joules Molly Welly boots will hopefully help you decide if the boots are right for you.

Comfort
For the price, the boots are reasonably comfortable. Often boots designed for the fashion conscious are not very comfortable, but that’s not the case with these Joules boots.
The boots are made of natural rubber which gives the ankle area both support and flexibility when walking. Thanks to the flexibility of the rubber it greatly reduces the chance of the boots rubbing against the foot and causing sores.
Natural rubber is not a very ‘breathable’ material and sweat can make wearing the boots uncomfortable. So, as with all rubber boots we strongly recommend wearing socks with your Molly Welly boots.
The boot’s removable insole is of good quality and provides a decent amount of cushioning and comfort.

The Molly Welly boots have so many different styles, patterns, and colours to choose from; there is something for everyone. Whether you’re shopping for your daughter or your grandmother, there will be a style they love. In fact, i don’t think we’ve reviewed any other range of boots with such an array of different colours and patterns!
Warmth
The Molly Welly boots have primarily been designed to look good and keep feet dry in wet weather. They have not been designed to keep feet warm in the cold. The boots have a thin textile lining, which is mainly there to help feet slide into the boots. The lining offers very little insulation against the cold. If you want boots that can cope with sub-zero temperatures, then you will want to look elsewhere.
Wearing Molly Welly socks will help improve warmth, but we have found that they don’t help that much. If you want boots that will keep your feet warm, the best option is to go for boots with a neoprene lining.
Traction
Not too much to say about the traction that these boots provide. The tread of the boots is fairly shallow, but they seem to provide sufficient grip on most surfaces. The boots have a small heel which helps with grip, by sinking slightly into soft ground giving more traction.
Durability
The durability of rubber boots varies greatly. Some boots will literally last decades, whilst others may only last a matter of months. It’s not just the low priced boots that can fall apart quickly; we’ve seen expensive boots split within weeks of buying them.
Joules are a pretty big name in the rubber boot world and they wouldn’t have gotten to where they are today by making boots that don’t last. We found the Molly Welly boots to be well constructed and have no obvious weak spots. Based on our experience, we would expect them to last between 2 to 5 years. Obviously, it does depend on how often the boots are worn and how far you walk in them.
All Joules Molly Welly boots come with a one year warranty, so if you do have a pair that break in the first year you can get in contact with Joules to arrange a replacement pair.
Sizing
Joules Molly Welly boots tend to run slightly on the large size. For most people our recommendation would be to purchase the boots in your normal shoe size. If you find they are a bit too big then insert a thin insole to give the boots a slightly tighter fit.
Unfortunately, like many rubber boots, these Joules boots are not available in half sizes and dropping an entire shoe size would probably mean the boots are too tight.
The Negatives
During our review, we didn’t really find any areas where the boots failed in a big way. The only negatives we found were fairly minor:
- The boots come up a little large and there’s no half size option, which is a bit disappointing
- There are reports that the dye from the lining runs, we didn’t experience this first-hand
- The buckle at the top of the boot doesn’t really make much of a difference when tightened. It appears to be more for styling purposes
Value for money
Determining if the boots are good value for money really depends on what the person purchasing the boots is looking to get from the boots. If you are after some stylish, good looking boots that will be worn on mild wet days, then, yes the Joules Molly Welly boots offer good value for money.
If you want boots that will keep your feet warm in extreme cold, then, no, these boots do not off good value for money.
When compared to similar style boots, the Molly Welly boots come in at the mid to high price point. The slightly higher price is probably because these are Joules boots a well recognised brand, so you do pay a bit extra for the name.

The boots look good and keep feet dry, which is what the they are designed to do. They are ideal for walking to work or school, taking the dog for a walk or doing some gardening.
