Burghley Horse Trials was first held on the historic Burghley Estate in 1961 with the grand Elizabethan Burghley House creating a beautiful setting for the now CCI**** 3 day event. With course builder Captain Mark Phillips, providing a Cross-Country (XC) course as challenging as ever, fantastic prizes, and Oliver Townend looking to defend his title after winning on Carousel Quest in 2009 who, after his nasty fall at Kentucky leaving him unable to compete at Badminton, has come back fighting; The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials is looking set to be, once again, a fantastic event in 2010. After a wet and muddy Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2008, make sure you are prepared with your wellington boots, waterproofs, hats and umbrellas this year! Burghley 2008 will be remembered for the mud, although spirits were certainly not dampened and there was plenty of fun, Pimm's and a great time to be had! Burghley Horse Trials is as well known as a must have date on the social calendar and for its shopping as it is for its Equestrian side. The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials in 2009 was jam-packed with plenty to see and do, as well as raising over £8,500 for charities including The Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund (MDIRF) and The East Anglia Air Ambulance. Burghley 2010 looks set to be just as fun, with the Event Stallion Parade, the return of the Donkey Driving Parade and not forgetting that Burghley will be celebrating its 50th birthday! After running the popular event consecutively since it began in 1961, which included staging the Horse Trials in 2001 despite foot-and-mouth causing the cancellation of many other events. With over 600 shops and tradestands open from 9am - 5.00pm from Thursday to Sunday, historic grounds, plenty of Equestrian action, activities for Canine's, lots of displays, an array of food and drink stands and far more, be sure to get yourself to Burghley this year. Don't forget to visit us on our stands E2 and E4, located near the entrance to the West Stand (Terraced standing) in the Grandstand.
